Introduction: The Deaconate - An Historical/Theological Review

  • Purpose:  To provide vocational deacon candidates with a basic understanding of the historical and theological development of the Vocational Deaconate.
  • Description: A 2-3 hour training module providing an overview of the development of the Vocational Deaconate over the history of the Church.
  • Target Population: Vocational deaconate candidates.
  • Session Length & Frequency: 2-3 hours (one evening or one-half day) 
  • Methods & Materials: Presentation, discussion, structured experience, skills practice. Handouts provided.

Collaboration Skills for Deacons

  • Purpose: To help vocational deacon candidates improve their ability to work collaboratively with people inside and outside of their congregation(s).
  • Description: A 2-3 hour training module covering the essential skills of collaboration. Part of a larger, mudularized training program for vocational deaconate candidates.
  • Target Population: Vocational deaconate candidates.
  • Session Length & Frequency: 2-3 hours (one evening or one-half day)
